State of Texas Resolution from Representative Tan Parker

Summit Club of Flower Mound

Yesterday

The Summit Club of Flower Mound was formed because of political turmoil that was tearing Flower Mound apart in the early 1970s.  With six disannexation elections in a short period of time, friends of many years were no longer speaking to each other.  The club was the brainchild of the late Leonard Johns who felt that something had to be done to bring the community together.

A group of ten men met at Ranchland in late 1973, to form a fraternal organization for the purpose of healing these wounds.  Buddy Dwyer was elected president at the first dinner meeting held on January 9, 1974.

The Summit Club initiated what has become the longest running community event in Flower Mound – The Easter Sunrise Service on the Mound.

The club did bring people together.  The Summit Club adheres strictly to its pledge of being non-political, bringing people together in an atmosphere of community service that transcends political differences.

We later started our Academic Recognition Award Program, and other community service projects.

Today

Community pride is a direct result of community service.  Many individuals and groups make valuable contributions to our community.  That is why an important function of the Summit Club is to assist other groups in their activities.

We have become the “Hot Dog Cookers” of Flower Mound by cooking thousands of hot dogs at the Town’s Independence Day Celebration Kids Parade.  During the past year, we have cooked hot dogs at Fire Station openings, and Beautify Flower Mound among other events.

While supporting other groups’ activities, we also run several of our own projects, including Flower Mound’s oldest community event, the Easter Sunrise Service on the Mound.

Each year our Academic Excellence Awards recognize outstanding 5th and 8th graders.

We sponsor two Cub Scout packs and a youth baseball team.

Whether it is cooking hot dogs, serving coffee on Easter morning, or just sitting around enjoying a fish fry, or barbeque, members of the Summit Club have a great time.

Tomorrow

While building on the past, the Summit Club is committed to community service for the 21st century.

Social Events

Being a Summit Club member is not all work.  We make an effort to get together from time to time just to eat and socialize.
